MTSBA 2022 Accommodating Individuals with Disabilities IDEA/504

Disabilities of students, staff, and others present an area of high risk for any public school and school officials need to know when legal requirements are triggered under the IDEA and accommodating individuals with disabilities, how to handle disciplinary issues and other issues that arise for public schools. Participants in this important training will be trained in all aspects relating to the legal requirements of the IDEA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the ADA and practical tips for managing disability-related issues.

 

January 11- 1:00-3:00 pm:  This session will focus on a district’s requirements to comply with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) starting with child find provisions, evaluations, individual education plans, and discipline of students who qualify under the IDEA. 

January 18 - 1:00-3:00 pm: The focus of this session will be on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the requirements for accommodating students with disabilities, developing 504 plan and how to handle the discipline of students who qualify under Section 504   

January 25 - 1:00-3:00 pm: This session will be devoted to the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and its application to public schools, school employees, and making public accommodations for visitors and others.
