2023 MTSBA School Board Leadership Symposium Agenda

8:30 – 9:00 am   Registration

 

9:00 – 10:15 am Trustee and Board duties and responsibilities: During this session, the MTSBA legal staff will discuss legal duties and other strategies for effective school board governance.  

 

10:15 – 10:30 am Mid-morning break

 

10:30 – 11:45 am Creating Trust and Transparency in District Operations: During this session, the MTSBA Legal Team will facilitate an interactive session on Montana’s Open Meeting laws by giving the audience scenarios which we routinely encounter and engaging in a discussion about the applicable laws.

 

Lunch 11:45 am – 1:00 pm

 

1:00 – 1:50 pm The ABCs of CBAs: During this session, MTSBA labor staff will provide an overview of Montana’s Collective Bargaining Act and strategies for bargaining to enhance student success. 

 

1:50 – 2:40 pm MTSBA Model Policy Updates:  You don’t want to miss this session -- we will discuss the policy updates needed as a result of the 2023 Legislative Session. 

 

2:40 – 3:30 pm  Managing the District’s Legal Risks: During this session, the MTSBA Legal Team will facilitate an interactive discussion on areas where our public schools are most at risk. 

 

3:30 – 4:00 pm  Q&A. If you have questions on any of the topics discussed during the day or others, the MTSBA staff will be available to answer your inquiries.
