Every member of your District’s administrative team will benefit from additional knowledge about IDEA and Section 504 procedures. Trustees, superintendents, clerks, principals, and other school leaders should join MTSBA staff for a day of learning about how to ensure students and their families receive services in accordance with the law and their needs.


Overview of Special Education (IDEA) Laws

In this session, presenters will review the obligations of school districts regarding compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The presenters will discuss the identification and evaluation of eligible students, Free Appropriate Public Education, Individualized Education Programs and the procedural safeguards for students and parents. 


Special Education and Section 504 Legal Challenges

This session will focus on the process required for the resolution of IDEA and Section 504 challenges. There are specific requirements in the law that need to be followed whenever the District is faced with a challenge on a special education or disability issue.


Accommodating Student and Employee Disabilities through Section 504

In this session, presenters will review the obligations of school districts to honor the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act for employees or students experiencing disability. The presenters will cover drafting, implementing and monitoring Section 504 plans of accommodation for public school students and employees. 


Student Discipline under Special Education and Section 504 Laws

In this session, presenters will review the unique disciplinary procedures for students receiving services through an Individualized Education Program or Section 504 Plan to ensure the district’s full compliance with state and federal law. 


Legal Update – Recent IDEA/504 Court Decision

In this session, presenters will provide an update on court decisions from around the United States that may help guide school district operations related to Section 504 and IDEA.
