MTSBA will be hosting the 2020 Back-to-School Legal Primer virtually. While we value our in-person training with trustees, superintendents, clerks, principals and other school leaders we believe the safest means for delivery to the field is a virtual offering. The dates and times are noted below or you can watch the recorded sessions when it is convenient for you. Here is our schedule for September:
September 3: 3:00-4:15 p.m. The new Title IX Regulations: These new Title IX regulations went into effect on August 14, 2020. Join us for a discussion about the duties and responsibilities of school district officials that are impacted by these changes. We will provide an overview of the changes and also discuss the needed policy changes.
September 10: 3:00-4:15 p.m. FERPA and Student Privacy Rights in a Virtual Learning Environment: With many schools offering online learning for students, school leaders need to understand how FERPA applies to virtual learning environments to ensure that students records are maintained in a confidential manner and to protect the privacy rights of students.
September 17: 3:00-4:15 p.m. Accommodating students and staff in a COVID-19 Environment: The focus of this session will be on the legal requirements for accommodating students and staff with disabilities in this pandemic environment. Avoid the pitfalls to minimize your risk of a FAPE or disability discrimination claim.
September 24: 3:00-4:15 p.m. Virtual Board Meetings and Compliance with Open Meeting Laws: During this session, we will discuss the best practices for holding your school board meetings virtually while complying with open meeting law requirements and the expectations of your community.
